In 1965 it had already reached 316 cm in March, 639 cm in May, and by the end of May it had dropped back to 571 cm. In mid-June, however, it suddenly rose to 703 cm, and the embankment could no longer withstand the pressure and broke. The evacuation of residents began with the help of the army. There was not enough room for everyone in the first vehicles, and people had to wait patiently. In some houses the water reached a height of 1 metre. Rescue was therefore possible only by boats or pontoons. After a month, after a month and a half, the village quietly sank into the water. Thus 99 houses in Patince silently fell. Sadly, the flood also claimed one young human life. The Patince baths were also submerged. Through the solidarity of people from across the republic, however, the wounds of the flood were healed.<\/p>\n
In the back part of the school park stands a memorial to the 1965 flood.
