He was given the name Vajk (Turkish: hero, leader); later he was baptized after St. Stephen as the first Christian martyr. According to custom, already in childhood he was taught Latin; his father thoroughly prepared him from the beginning for the role of ruler. He did not become a vassal of the Pope or the Emperor. He considered his subjects speaking other languages as equal to the Hungarians. He led successful battles against internal and external enemies threatening his country. He had captivating leadership skills; we know of no lost battle or military campaign of his. From Pope Sylvester II he requested and obtained the royal crown. He was crowned king on Christmas of the year of our Lord 1000. Saint Stephen, as the builder of the country, created the county system of the kingdom, establishing Komárno Castle as the seat of one of the counties. He died in 1038 and was buried in the former cathedral in Székesfehérvár (Hungary). His grave and sarcophagus have been preserved to this day and are accessible to the public in the local museum.

The statue by the Hungarian sculptor Lajos Győrfi was unveiled on 20 August 2009.

[108
115
post-1474","zaujimavost","type-zaujimavost","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kategoria-programov-with-culture","obec-komarno
["GET
