Previously, the arcaded one-storey building of the House of the Golden Cross stood on the site. On 6 November 1848, the honorary citizen of Kom\u00e1rno Lajos Kossuth was lodged here. It had several owners. The eclectic building once housed the First Savings Bank in Kom\u00e1rno and, after nationalisation, also the consulting rooms of the District Health Institute (the so-called Polyclinic). In 2003 it was transferred to the ownership of the Nitra Self-Governing Region, which did not look after the building for years, and as it stood empty, its condition deteriorated.
