It is a copy, since over time it became so damaged that it had to be removed from there. The original of the statue is housed in the local Danube Museum. On that basis the sculptor Vladim\u00edr Vi\u0161v\u00e1der made an authentic copy of the Stone Maiden.<\/p>\n<p>The maiden holds a laurel wreath in her hand, and beneath her an inscription is carved into the stone \u2013 indicating the impregnability of the fortress: NEC ARTE \u2013 NEC MARTE = neither by cunning nor by force.<\/p>\n<p>The statue is said to depict a maiden who during the Turkish siege of the fortress decided to set fire to the Turkish camp.
