The museum was created within the project “Link to the international tourist route: In the footsteps of the Romans on the Danube”.

The museum has two exhibitions: Roman and ethnographic.

A marble plaque placed on the wall of the building commemorates Ján Tóth-Kurucz, who was born in Iža. It was he who began the first excavations in Kelemantia at the beginning of the last century. The Roman exhibition also presents a piece of his work with original manuscripts and personal belongings.

In putting the exhibition together, the Danube Museum in Komárno also helped; many of the objects come from its collection, as do several pieces of the Roman exhibition. Besides utility and liturgical objects, the ethnographic exhibition also presents the history of the local embroidery industry, which spread at the end of the 19th century from neighbouring Chotín to Iža. Visitors can admire attractive pieces made with intricate embroidery and azure colour.

At the back of the building a craftsman’s workshop has been built, where visitors are shown how the Romans lived and worked. Children’s camps and Roman camps are also held in the building in summer.

Opening hours:

Tue–Fri: 13:00–15:00

At other times, advance booking is required.

Contact:

SK-94639 Iža, Hlavná 11

Tel.: +421 35 778 3153, +421 918 981 716

E-mail: obeciza@iza.sk

[98
108
113
post-1511","zaujimavost","type-zaujimavost","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-museum","kategoria-programov-with-culture","obec-iza
["GET
