It was first handed over to the public for use in 1895 and was named after the youngest, fourth daughter of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph and Elisabeth of Bavaria, known as Sissi.<\/p>\n<p>In 1919, it was Czechoslovak troops who seriously damaged the bridge, and in 1944, German troops bombed it.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the disabled bridge, the inhabitants on both banks of the Danube had difficult conditions for meeting friends and relatives for almost 60 years.
