Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Description

One of the most significant monuments of the village is this Roman Catholic church built in the Baroque style. It was consecrated in 1799 in honour of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was heavily damaged during the Second World War. The damage was only repaired in 1957. After the war, a new tower had to be built, which is lower than the original one. It is fascinating not only for the monumentality of the building, but also for the exceptional and rich decoration of its interior.

The stone cross now standing in front of the church entrance was erected in 1710; previously a wooden cross stood on its site. Later, a statue of the Virgin Mary and a statue of St. John the Evangelist were erected. The interior of the church was renovated in 1987.
