The upper floor of this Neo-Gothic 19th-century building served as apartments for the officers and their families of the Imperial and Royal Army who served in the Komárno Fortress. On the ground floor was the officers’ casino. On the front of the building one can see the inscription VIRIBUS UNITIS (in unity there is strength), which was the motto of Emperor Franz Josef I.
Today the premises are used by the János Selye University, the Municipal Office of Komárno, and a pharmacy, a restaurant, and other services are also in operation here. An amphitheatre has been built in the pavilion’s courtyard. During the summer months it is frequently used for concerts, events, and family occasions. In the courtyard there is a statue of János Selye, specialist of the stress theory, as well as a bridge symbolising the connection between Komárno and Komárom.
