Catacombs

Description

The casemates — underground passages built at the same time as the Franciscan monastery and church — represent a unique historical monument of the town. Since their creation in the mid-17th century they have been owned by the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans). The catacombs played an important role during the Second World War, when they served as a shelter for thousands of people.
