Courtyard of Europe

Description

At the end of the 20th century, in connection with the Zichy Palace, the Courtyard of Europe was established. The Courtyard of Auditors presents the architecture of 45 countries and regions, whose design and construction are named after the architects Nándor Litomericzky, Peter Takács, and Peter Varga. The inner park of the Zichy Palace is connected to the new square by the Matthias Gate. The gate is one of the dominant structures of the square, evoking in its shape and colouring the buildings built during the reign of King Matthias.

The western side of the square is bordered by the Estonian, Finnish, Belgian, Dutch, Frisian, Norwegian, Danish, English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh houses. There are also a San Marino house and Romanian, Czech, and Slovak houses. The German House is the only one that is not new, but is the oldest building in the town. In the courtyard stands the “Europe” Gallery of Statues, which presents monarchs and notable historical figures. Those interested in the cosy square are from time to time welcomed by outdoor events, but it is also worth visiting the space in quieter periods, as it radiates a wonderful atmosphere.

The Courtyard of Europe in Komárno is among the modern landmarks of the Danube region.
