The eco-farm is located by Veľký Lél Island, near the village of Zlatná na Ostrove. It is about 15 kilometres from Komárno. It is easily accessible by road, by cycle path, and also for those who choose the waterway.
The 3-kilometre-long Veľký Lél Island, lying on the Danube near Komárno, is known at more than 250 hectares as one of the last large Danube islands in Slovakia. Here, human farming in harmony with nature and the untamed wilderness of the floodplain landscape come together. The island represents a unique mosaic of forest, wetland and grassland habitats. On one side it is bordered by the already very wide main channel of the Danube at this point, and on the other side by the similarly wide Veľký Lél branch. Since 2009, traditional grazing of farm animals (which had died out here in the 1990s) has been restored on the island’s meadows, and herds of cows, sheep, goats and horses once again roam the lowland grasslands. The landscape value of the island is further enhanced by old solitary oaks in the middle of the meadows, with their edges lined by tall poplars and pollarded willows. Within the primeval forest nature reserve with the highest fifth level of protection, natural forest habitats are left to self-develop. The island is also a birdwatcher’s paradise – here you can spot herons and cormorants arriving to feed from a nearby breeding colony, sand martins, white and black storks, or our largest raptor, the white-tailed eagle, majestically circling above the island.
The name of the neighbouring village of Zlatná na Ostrove (Csallóközaranyos in Hungarian) or Locus Aureus (as mentioned in the first reference to the village from 1094) suggests that gold was once obtained here. The waters of the Danube formed a meander at this place, in whose alluvial deposits considerable amounts of gold settled. Even today, anyone with luck and a good feel in their hands can pan a few gold flakes from the sand on the banks of the Danube.

Thanks to cooperation with the Zlatý Hucul Equestrian Club, whose skilled members have been working on the island for several years, even complete beginners can try riding Hucul horses, while demanding and experienced riders will also find what they are looking for. Huculs were chosen for their calm nature and resilience to all weather conditions, as they are free on the island from early spring until late autumn with continuous access to pasture and water.
As part of riding on the island, they offer:
