House of Folk Traditions and Archaeological Museum

Description

The House of Folk Traditions was set up in a former farmhouse, which with its huge farm courtyard and outbuildings seemed most suitable for this purpose. It was opened on 14 October 2005 and is an external exhibition of the Ján Thain Museum in Nové Zámky.

We enter the courtyard through a wooden lath gate. From the courtyard, we step into the kitchen, where various vessels are placed on a stove with an open hearth. On the right is the front room (the “clean room”) with typical furnishings: two beds under the window, a table with four chairs, a mirror on the wall. In the corner of the room is a cast-iron stove. To the left of the kitchen is the back room, with a hearth by the door and a wood box next to it.

On the side of the house, a porch runs along its entire length, from which one enters the living rooms and the stable. The stable stands behind the house, and behind it is a barn. At the end of the barn is a pressing shed, and from the courtyard there was an entrance to the cellar.

The building opposite the house consists of two parts. At the front is the summer kitchen, at the back is the granary. In front of the summer kitchen door is a wheel well, and next to the granary are brick pigsties.
