Monuments of the Village of Iža

Description

On the bank of the Danube near the pumping station there is a small arched bridge. It is said to date from Turkish times. It is called the “Turkish Bridge”. It is still in working order today.

Next to the Catholic church stands a sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk on a marble pedestal. At the end of the village is the former Persei rolling mill, built by Lajos Persei in 1939.

In the middle of the village, in the direction of Štúrovo, there is an artesian well whose water rises from a depth of 220 m. A pavilion stands above the well.

The cemetery serves Catholics, Reformed and Lutherans alike. On the raised part of the cemetery is the chapel of the Kurucz family – “Géza Chapel”. The main cross dates from 1788 and is made of marble from Süttő in Baroque style.

In front of the Green Frog inn stands a memorial column by the woodcarver Sándor Felszegi from Székelyudvarhely. A Szekler Gate was erected in 2018 in front of the municipal office.
