In the months of July and August, you will find summer musical evenings, concerts, and film screenings on the Pedestrian Zone.
The first written mention of a settlement in the territory of today’s town was under the name Kakath, dating from 1075.
Today’s Štúrovo is the southernmost town in Slovakia and attracts visitors with its interesting natural environment. Near the town, the Hron flows into the Danube, offering excellent conditions for lovers of adventurous trips.
The town is known for its tolerance. For centuries, members of various nationalities and religions have lived peacefully together on its territory. This diversity gives the town a special colour.
The busiest street of the town – the Štúrovo promenade on the pedestrian zone – was handed over to the public in 2005. The promenade is adorned with two refreshing fountains connected – to the great joy of children – by a babbling brook. Passers-by are attracted by tasteful, comfortable benches. Those who like to rest in the shade of greenery do not have to go anywhere, because there is plenty of it in the renovated park. Under the mighty crowns of nearly century-old plane trees, everyone can find a pleasant coolness on hot summer afternoons. Well-maintained flower beds designed with great aesthetic sense attract the eyes of visitors with colourful shades and imaginative patterns. The atmosphere of the summer promenade culminates in the evening hours, when it is complemented by lively cultural life.
