Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Description

The Roman Catholic parish church is the dominant feature of the Main Square. It was built in the second half of the 16th century. Originally it was a Late Gothic structure. When Nové Zámky was in Turkish hands, it was rebuilt and served as a mosque. In 1693 the church was restored by Archbishop György Széchényi, whose coat of arms can be found above the main entrance. In the 19th century the church was rebuilt to its present form.

The interior of the church features the main altar with a painting of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, side altars, a pulpit and an 18th-century organ. The church is a national cultural monument.
