The exhibition is located in the southern part of the bastion. In the building, which is an interesting fortification structure from the 19th century, the museum in 1993 established a lapidarium in which Roman stone-sculpture monuments are placed. The museum’s Roman Lapidarium presents in chronological order (1st-4th centuries AD) mainly tombstones or their fragments, altar stones, sarcophagi, and other monuments.
Most of the exhibits come from the Roman frontier fortifications Brigetio and Kelemantia, built opposite each other on both banks of the Danube near Komárno. In a separate room, copies of the most remarkable Roman sculptural monuments from various locations in Slovakia are exhibited.
This museum exhibition was awarded the annual prize of the magazine “Pamiatky a múzeá” in 1993. In 1994, for the preservation renovation of Bastion VI and the implementation of the Roman Lapidarium, the museum received international recognition – the EUROPA NOSTRA award.
